Responsible for the study, design, specification and detailed design of conventional devices systems, units or facilities within the Telecommunication discipline.
Carries out responsible and varied engineering assignments requiring general familiarity with the relevant discipline and knowledge of reciprocal effects on other disciplines.
Analyzes technical documents and proposes solutions based upon industrial principles and practical experience. Works independently to develop / adapt drawings, document and databases based upon a combination of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
Difficult, complex or unusual decisions are usually left to more senior engineers. Supervises and advises less experienced engineers from time to time.
Able to independently perform standard design tasks for one or more common Telecommunication systems. Systems will typically fall into one of the following categories for onshore and offshore applications in the oil and gas industry : information and communications technology (ICT)radio frequency (RF)security and surveillancepublic address and life safetymarine safety and communicationsentertainment and lifestyle systemscabinets, cabling and infrastructure
Competent user of standard systems and tools for calculations and design.
Assist in establishing deliverables lists for assigned systems; review and commit to delivery schedules for assigned work.
Prepare / adapt new or existing drawings and documents for project specific objectives. Supervise, check and validate drawings and documents prepared by others.
Analyze, interpret and apply codes, standards and specifications to the work for conventional systems. Make engineering decisions based upon the analysis, in consultation with more senior engineers.
Review vendor technical and commercial quotations for conventional systems and make vendor recommendations based upon best overall value -
technical suitability, material price, installation costs, and operational costs.
Be the document owner for own documents, and supervise others in their document management practices.
Identify and communicate impacts of own work, or that of an assigned team, on other disciplines. Interface regularly with other disciplines.
Deliver cross-function deliverables to include technical evaluations, engineering requisitions, proposals and estimates for complex systems within own discipline.
Contribute to project and / or departmental meetings, technical reviews, safety reviews.
Demonstrate time management and budget awareness through management of blocks of engineering hours encompassing multiple tasks / deliverables.
Improve management skills to include scheduling and budgeting hours for own work and direct reports and by working to broader procurement budgets.
Assume other duties as may be required by the company from time to time.
Education and Skills
BSEng or equivalent engineering degree from an accredited university.
5-9 years post graduate work experience in an engineering consultancy or EPC company within the oil and gas industry.
Should be familiar with typical systems encountered in industrial telecoms applications and with applicable international codes and standards (ITU-
T, ITU-R, IEC, EIA / TIA, BS, IMO, ICAO, SOLAS, etc.) as applicable to the area of expertise.
Should possess a good understanding of various ingress protection and hazardous area classification standards as defined by NEC, IEC and ATEX.
Some site based construction and commissioning experience is an advantage.
