JobPurpose :

Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, role holdersare responsible for contributing to an exceptional studentexperience through the delivery of teaching, research, business andenterprise engagement activity.

Role holders will actively engage in research and relatedactivities, which will inform curriculum development and deliveryand raise the profile of the Department, Faculty and Universitynationally and internationally.

KeyResponsibilities :

  • The role holder will contribute to delivering theFaculty’s strategic priorities, which include theintegration of excellent teaching, high quality research, emergingbusiness and regional engagement development activities within anacademic context.
  • The role holderwill be responsible for the development, organisation and deliveryof curriculum content, within undergraduate programmes of thedepartment.
  • The Programme leader isresponsible for the overall experience of the students on theprogramme, together with the management and organisation, qualityassurance and continuous improvement of the programme theylead.
  • Programme leader is ultimatelyresponsible for academic leadership, management and assessment, forthe programme they have been designated to lead on.
  • In particular, the role holder will berequired to contribute to the Faculty as outlined below :

    Learning andTeaching

  • Expected teaching load is 3-4 modules at each Fall andSpring semesters
  • Responsible for thedevelopment of the programme, delivering content and activitieswhich reflect discipline and university best practice
  • Delivery of the programme including coordination ofmodule activity to support a positive learningexperience
  • To contribute to research informedlearning, and the development of innovative methods of teaching,learning and assessment.
  • To liaise closelywith teaching, technical and administrative staff to ensure qualityteaching support
  • Be available to students andprogramme representatives, meeting the latter on a regular basis at least twice per semester and ensure all students areinformed of the response to issues raised and actionstaken.
  • Research,Innovation and Enterprise activities

  • To undertake research and scholarly activitiescontributing to the Faculty’s research profile and theUniversity’s vision identified in the Corporate Strategy2013-2017.
  • This may include participation in institutional andcollaborative research and involvement with industry stakeholders,other institutions, external organisations and other universitypartners.

  • To supervise students’scholarship and research activities.
  • Toundertake consultancy as agreed and directed by the Associate Deanfor Research and Innovation
  • To undertakebusiness development activities as agreed and directed by theAssociate Dean for Business and Engagement.
  • Academic Management andAdministration

  • To deliver programme andmodule administration
  • Toundertake tasks associated with student recruitment, induction andprogramme planning; involvement in assessment boards, coursedevelopment teams etc.
  • To attend Faculty,Subject, programme and University wide meetings and committees asappropriate.
  • To represent the Facultyeffectively in both the national and internationalcontext.
  • General and Academicdevelopment

  • Tocontribute to the implementation of the Faculty’sAcademic Plan. This may include :
  • planning anddevelopment of postgraduate and / or undergraduate provision.
  • programme / module evaluation and revision.
  • engagement with regional and international initiatives andcollaborative ventures.
  • To undertakecontinuous professional development and participate in staffappraisal, staff development and other post-entry training based onan assessment of individual and institutional needs.
  • To undertake any other duties in the Faculty as shall bereasonably requested.
  • SpecificKnowledge

  • Demonstrable expert knowledge of a relevant subjectarea / s.
  • Experience in the design, developmentand delivery of successful learning and teaching programmes andrelated learning interventions.
  • Experience ofprogramme management on a range of academic, research andprofessional programmes.
  • Experienceof successful contribution to research both individually andthrough the supervision of research programmes in collaborationwith others.
  • Experience of fosteringcollaborative links, for example with international partners,industry, commerce and / or the publicsector.
  • Professionalpractice experience
  • Skills andAbilities

  • Priorexperience in Britch University System
  • Abilityto teach effectively on a range of academic and professionalprogrammes using a variety of approaches to studentlearning.
  • Ability to produce academic outputsconsistent with criteria for selection for a future ResearchExcellence Framework (REF) submission.
  • Abilityto work closely with individuals and organisations internally andexternally to build collaborative links for the benefit of theUniversity as a whole.
  • Ability to plan andorganise the successful delivery of all aspects of programmemanagement.
  • Able to foster a culture ofcollegiality, demonstrating the ability to influence and involveothers.
  • Ability to operate effectively inteams in a variety of roles.
  • Excellentinterpersonal and communication skills, oral andwritten.
  • Evidence of Continuous ProfessionalDevelopment and the ability to collaborate with others in teaching,research and consultancy.
  • Education / Training

  • Doctorate qualification in a relevant subjectdiscipline (or exceptionally, doctoral equivalent throughdemonstration of academic standing in the field.)
  • Post graduate and professional qualifications in adiscipline relevant to the faculty.
  • Higher EducationAcademy Fellowship

  • Evidence ofeffective team leadership in an academic or industrialenvironment
  • Professional qualified or at thefinalist stage : a) CFA, b) CPA, c) CFP and e) CGA Canada ispreferable.
