Main Duties :

Library Use Facilitation and Development

  • Train students and staff on proper use of the library, needed library skills, and on finding information and locating material
  • Assist Students and teachers in locating library materials.
  • Direct users to material locations, suggest possible sources of information.
  • Pull materials requested by students and teachers and prepare copies as necessary.
  • Encourage the use of technology within the library, research the Internet, and educate teachers and students on the use of these resources as they pertain to the library.
  • Assist in selecting quality materials that meet the needs and desires of individual students and teachers, that support the curriculum, provide enrichment, and contribute to the growth of social, intellectual and aesthetic values in line with school mission and book selection policy, and research publishers for best prices.
  • Screen library resources to ensure their cultural appropriateness.
  • Promote use of library by developing and offering varied activities including story time, readers groups, readers theater, storytelling groups, etc.
  • and coordinate library programs including scheduling presentations, guest readers, and similar events.

  • Create library exhibits including bulletin boards, posters, window, and table displays.
  • Attend meetings, publisher seminars, and book fairs and exhibitions periodically.

    Administration of Library

  • Administer and develop the library resources in accordance with the school mission, policies, and curriculum through selection, weeding, cataloging and processing, inventory, and general repair of resources.
  • Plan and manage library budget, material, equipment and supplies in coordination with the direct manager.
  • Administer and perform semi-annual / annual inventory of library resources and plan for future needs.
  • Assist in developing / updating, and documenting library procedures, standards, and policies of operation.
  • Coordinate library events.
  • Administer and maintain the library’s computer system and keep holdings up-to-date.
  • Adhere to school adopted book selection policy.
  • Process materials according to established library procedures, including cataloging, coding, and labeling, book covering and laminating, card filings in card catalog, and updating circulation files.
  • Check out printed materials for students and faculty. Processing return of borrowed materials, including checking, repairs, and shelving.
  • Keeping the library in order generally.

  • Maintain circulation records within library computer system, including preparation of weekly and monthly statistics on use of Library holdings, overdue lists, lost and damaged items, payment for lost / damaged materials, updating catalogues and indexes, and preparing circulation reports for concerned parties.
  • Maintain information files and records as requested for correspondence, reports, library usage and other materials.
  • Support for Curriculum and Instruction

  • Coordinate materials and collaborate with teachers in the development of new curriculum units for classrooms that integrate library skills and promote the use of library among students and teachers.
  • Develop and maintain instructional materials section in collaboration with curriculum and instruction staff and teachers covering a variety of subjects and including various material for use by teachers for effective instruction and classroom management.
  • Review all items placed in library to have full knowledge of the content for instructional assistance and / or challenges.
  • Plan, schedule and present in-service to teachers as it pertains to the use of the library and its resources.
  • Serve as a resource person to the curriculum and instruction staff and teachers.
  • Other Duties

  • Perform other related, similar or logical duties as required or assigned. This may include assisting other school administrative staff during their peak time.
  • Skills

    Required Specifications :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science
  • 22 to 35 years old and in good physical health
  • 2+ years of experience in a library
  • Fluency in English, reading, speaking and writing
  • Knowledge of current literature and professional trends in children literature and ability to present
  • Proven ability to effectively work with children and adults in a pleasant and cooperative manner collaborate
  • Perform responsibilities and tasks timely, accurately and with great attention to detail
  • Proactive with a positive attitude
  • Able to operate with minimal supervision and self motivated when given new assignments
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task
  • Creativity, and ability to think out of the box
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both Arabic and English
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, computers database systems, and searching the Internet
  • Works safely and establishes a safe environment; reacts quickly in emergency situations to maximize children safety
  • Analyzes situations and takes appropriate action regarding routine / emergency procedural matters without immediate supervision.
  • Possess knowledge of :
  • Library terminology, procedures, and practices.
  • The Dewey Decimal System and cataloging system.
  • Library reference tools.
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Procedures used in purchasing library materials.
