Overall Purpose of Job : Collaborating with other members of the learning community, facilitate and support the school curriculum.
Design and teach innovative library-related curriculum with students Grade 6 9 (ages 10-15).
The library media program promotes literacy as the basis for students becoming independent, lifelong learners.
The Librarian is responsible for acquiring, organising, managing and distributing library resources, and ensuring that the library provision meets the needs of all its users.
Professional Responsibilities : Plan and implement clearly stated long & short-term goals as part of the ACS 5 year plan.
Maintain active involvement with professional organisations and professional development activities. Prepare courses, coordinate and plan curriculum with other members of the department, and liaise with other departments as appropriate.
Maintain effective relationships with colleagues, parents and students. Adhere to school policies and procedures to protect health and safety of students and to provide a positive learning environment.
Act as a homeroom teacher / advisor to approximately 20 students. Cooperate other libraries in the international school community.
Library Administration : Develop library policies e.g.
collection development, circulation, challenged materials, copyright. Develop a functional and pleasant library media center conducive to a variety of instructional programs and independent learning activities.
Promote library programs and services through a variety of channels. Evaluate the school library media program. Administer budgets according to needs and objectives of the library and school community.
Recruit, train and supervise support staff and volunteers. Organise, classify and catalogue library materials following recognised professional standards.
Demonstrate competency in selection, acquisition, circulation, maintenance and inventory of materials. Utilise new and emerging technology.
Maintain the MS library Forum page. Create on-line learning links for teachers and students and keep these up-to-date as the curriculum is revised and new links become available.
Managing time and space effectively, keeping a balance of time spent in direct services to patrons and time spent on administrative tasks.
Teaching and Curriculum Support Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialist teachers in the design and implementation of library-
related curriculum. Demonstrate instructional effectiveness in small group, large group, and one-to-one instruction. Exercise a leadership role in teaching faculty and parents about information literacy, reading, and other library-
related topics. Serves on Curriculum And Assessment Team as appropriate for library integration e.g.
Social Studies, Language Arts. Attend Department meetings as appropriate. Work with Lower School librarian on coordination of systems.
Education and Experience : Qualifications Bachelors degree, Masters of Library Science Degree preferred. Teaching certification issues from an accredited agency Experience Children’s school library management experience In depth knowledge of children’s literature and current information resources.
Instructional expertise bridging all grade levels. Ability to work with teams in a variety of circumstances. Excellent computer skills and integration of technology into the curriculum.
Strong oral and written communication skills. Outstanding collaborative skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment.
Enthusiastic willingness to participate in wider school life (extracurricular activities, coaching, club sponsorship, etc.
Additional Information : You will be assigned lunchtime duties. Required to attend all faculty meetings. Help to plan author events, book fairs and special projects The librarian organises the library hours with the Library Aids so the library can be open from 7 : 30 3 : 30 when student are on campus.

Working Environment : Based at ACS Doha International School campus with occasional travel. The contractual hours are 7 : 00-
3 : 00 TBC Sunday through Thursday but the nature of the profession requires work outside those hours on many occasions.
