A Director of Human Resources will manage Human Resource related activities including succession planning, talent management, recruitment, learning and development and training, performance management, compensation and benefits, and employee relations initiatives.

What will I be doing?

As a Director of Human Resources, you will be responsible for the effective management and performance of all Human Resources related activities.

This includes talent management, succession planning, learning and development and training, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and health and safety initiatives.

Specifically, a Director of Human Resources will perform the following tasks to the highest standards :

HR procedures and processes

  • Implementation and consistent delivery and compliance with all HR policies and procedures at Waldorf Astoria
  • Proactively ensure familiarity with Company policies, procedure and best practice in order to provide accurate advice and guidance to all line managers and employees
  • Manage and oversee Employee Relations at Waldorf Astoria, ensuring the timely and effective management of ER issues in line with Company procedure and best practice, escalating issues as appropriate to the General Manager and / or Cluster HR Director
  • Responsibility for all aspects of compliance in legislative and Company HR procedure, including recording of information, personnel file management, information data capture and accurate HR documentation is maintained in each hotel
  • Manage the recruitment process within the hotels to ensure delivery of an effective and timely recruitment solution in line with Company’s recruitment strategy, and which secures highly talented teams within Waldorf Astoria.
  • Monitor Absence and Employee Turnover and identify effective action and implement proactive solutions to reduce both absenteeism and turnover across all departments.
  • Ensure the processing of Waldorf Astoria payroll is accurately and timely completed and checked, and all related documentation is appropriately completed and passed to Finance for monthly payroll processing
  • Proactively manage and support the CARE Committee and ensure this to be an effective communication forum throughout the hotel, is represented by each department
  • Working with the General Manager and Hotel Manager, champion the Brand and Standard Operating Procedures ensuring delivery and compliance on a continual basis, addressing non-performance and compliance with proactive solutions.
  • Work with the Property Manager, Hotel Manager and Company Health and Safety Consultants to ensure a safe and secure environment for employees and guests and that all Company and legislative requirements are adhered to
  • Training and Development

  • Manage the Appraisal process and ensure the regular reviews are conducted throughout the hotels and identified training and developments needs are auctioned in a timely manner.
  • Identify, manage and support continuous development and succession planning through the appraisal process, feedback and the training team within the hotels.
  • Working with the Cluster HR Director to implement and manage an effective career management strategy and solutions.
  • Identify, manage and coordinate the training and development needs within the hotel to ensure employees at all levels are equipped to carry out their duties effectively ensuring multi-tasking and a flexible workforce
  • Manage and delivery of the Waldorf Astoria Induction process to ensure all elements are successfully undertaken and employees receive an effective and engaging introduction to Waldorf Astoria throughout their probationary period.
  • Delivery of Company specific training within the hotels ensuring a high performance culture and legislative requirements are met.
  • Work with and support the Heads of Departments to deliver effective solutions which will position Waldorf Astoria as top performing teams and renowned for their customer service approach
  • Manage and source local external training solutions as required and directed by the Cluster HR Director to ensure the training needs are delivered.
  • Drive the performance of the Training Teams in each hotel and oversee departmental training programmes, delivered by the Departmental Coaches, to ensure they are being delivered in line with the agreed training plans addressing both individual and department needs.
  • Other Tasks

  • Work on group wide HR projects as directed by the Regional HR Director
  • Propose HR initiatives to improve performance within each of the hotels ensuring appropriate research and ROI analysis.
  • Regularly visits and inspects the hotels employee accommodation and take corrective action if required for any issues related to cleanliness, safety and security.
  • Ensures regular evacuation drills are conducted at the employee accommodation to ascertain that all colleagues are aware of the fire drill and evacuation procedures at the staff accommodation.
  • Works closely with the hotel PRO and the Ministry of Manpower to ensure we have a good standing and relationship with the relevant government bodies involved in human resources matters.

  • Tertiary qualifications, or other collegiate-level degree, in Human Resources or related field, required
  • Previous human resources management experience in the hotel, leisure, and / or retail sector
  • Excellent leadership skills and exceptional communication skills
  • Strong commercial / business acumen
  • A passion for leadership and the vision to create a winning team
  • The candidate should have relevant pre-opening experience in a 5-Star resort hotel environment in the GCC
