Job Summary and Purpose

Provide commercial and legal advice on corporate, shipping, commercial and compliance matters to the organization, including its subsidiaries and Joint Venture companies.

Eliminate or mitigate commercial and legal risks which generally involve in the running and operation of organization and its subsidiaries globally.

Assist General Counsel with overall Legal department support to the organization

Legal advice :

  • Provide support and legal advice to the NAKILAT management including corporate, shipping, and commercial. Also advice on compliance matters, including legal support to NAKILAT’s subsidiaries and joint ventures.
  • Assist the Commercial, Planning and Treasury Departments on the structuring, drafting and negotiation of new ventures related to the expansion of organization’s business portfolio.
  • Provide regular legal advice and support to Commercial and Fleet Departments in respect of the negotiation and interpretation of both new and existing LNG and LPG charter party terms and conditions.
  • Provide general advice to Administration and HR departments on corporate and employment matters.
  • Contract Management :

  • Handle commercial and charter party differences and disputes arising from international transactions & shipping contracts, including those which are signed by the NAKILAT and its subsidiaries.
  • Draft and negotiate Shipbuilding Contracts and EPC contracts for the construction of offshore and port vessels, as well as offshore platforms & shipbuilding / conversion contracts for NAKILAT’s subsidiaries operating in Ras Lafan Shipyard (i.e. NKOM and NDSQ).
  • Generic Accountabilities :

    Supervision of Subordinates :

  • Organize and supervise the activities and work of direct subordinates to ensure that all work within a specific team is completed to the required standards and in line with NAKILAT operating policies and procedures.
  • Provide on-the-job training and constructive feedback to subordinates to support their overall development.
  • Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment (QHSE) :

    Ensure compliance to all relevant QHSE policies, procedures and controls across the section, to ensure that NAKILAT provides a safe, world class, secure and environmentally responsible service to customers, the public and its own people. Budgets and Plans :

    Prepare the Legal department budget, and monitor its expenditure, while ensuring the optimal utilization of all available resources to protect NAKILAT interest. Systems and Processes :

    Participate in developing the Legal department policies, procedures and system, and ensure their proper implementation to support achieving the different set targets and plans, hence NAKILAT strategy

  • Provide legal advice and support to the entire organization and its subsidiaries
  • Support the entire legal concerns of Commercial and Fleet department in respect of negotiation and interpretation
  • Draft and negotiate on shipbuilding contracts for the organization and its subsidiaries
  • Handle all dispute arising from international transactions and shipping contracts
  • Qualifications, Experience and Skills Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law
  • Master’s Degree or specialized certificates
  • Professional Legal Qualification
  • Experience :

  • 12-15 years of related experience of which a minimum of 5-8 years should be in a similar position / responsibility, preferably in a similar Industry
  • International Shipping Law firm experience
