DepartmentThe Research Department will house several hundred researchers working on many aspects of feto-maternal health.
It will cover basic, translational, clinical trials and informatics research.
The department comprises of two research floors totaling 10,000M2 and 9 smaller satellite laboratories throughout the hospital.
The department will house basic laboratories as well as state of the art core facilities, e.g.
genomics, medicinal chemistry and imaging.
The Research Department will include a GMP Cell and Gene Therapy manufacturing facility and principal investigators who will carry out IRB approved translational and clinical research studies some of which may involve the administration of cell and gene therapies.
Person The Post-Doctoral Fellow - Bioinformatics within the Biomedical Informatics division will be involved in carrying out innovative research in bioinformatics and next generation sequencing data analysis.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow Bioinformatics will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator and / or Staff Scientist and actively contribute in developing and designing new bioinformatics methods to help address the challenges of personalized medicine.
The incumbent is also involved in performing advanced analysis of Omics data especially Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
He / she is also expected to work closely with Biologists and Clinicians in order to understand the biological / clinical challenges and help them address their questions by implementing the proper analytics;
will also contribute to paper writing and present their work internally and at international scientific events.
He / she should also provide training to junior staff and students.Key Role Accountabilities Collects biomedical data for research.
Conducts bioinformatics analysis on genomics data.
Analyzes and processes biomedical data, conducts statistical analysis, experiment design and database development.
Performs scientific research with highest standards.
Performs scientific research on high throughput data such as micro-array and next generation sequencing.
Acts as a liaison who understands molecular biology and bioinformatics and does the interpretation between the two groups.
Communicates results / findings to the relevant scientific community via published papers.
Works closely with PI’s and Scientists and understand their needs from the bioinformatics group.
Collaborates with other Sidra members to apply the results of research and / or develop new techniques or practices.
Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues both local and in academic conferences.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Selection Criteria ESSENTIAL PREFERRED Education PhD degree in bioinformatics or relevant field Experience
Academic research experience with publications in peer-reviewed academic journals and / or conferences.
Experience in biomedical data analysis.
Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and databases.
Strong genomics analysis experience, especially next generation sequencing data analysis.
Working experience with high dimensional data sets such as genomics, proteomics and metabolomics.
Experience in computer algorithms and computational software development.
Good background in quantitative methods and statistics.
Strong experience in Java, Python and Scala.
Experience with Apache Spark.
2+ years of NGS data analysis experience.
Strong background in molecular biology.
Experience in a clinical setting.
