To assume the responsibility to operate in a safe and efficient manner industrial counter balance fork and side lift trucks and undertake a wide range of general material handling duties in support of operational activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the mechanical handling and movement of stock items, parts, material, components and products in, out and around the facility in a safe and efficient manner in support of operational activities.
Support the supply chain function by assisting in the manual handling of stock items, parts, material, components and products and preparing, packaging and palletising parts and components ready for despatch
Perform various physical activities such as general housekeeping duties to keep all areas clean and tidy and material handling duties by assisting in sorting, identifying, tagging and storing parts and components
Must follow specific safety regulations governing the operation of industrialfork / side lift truck regarding daily equipment inspections, general maintenance and full awareness of the stability and load rating capacities.
Daily safety inspections to include brakes, horn, steering, controls, hoses, lights, fluids, battery , carriage and forks, mast chain, chain anchor pins, tyres, rims, counterweight and any specialist attachments.
Inspect and verify all documentation, material safety data sheets and manifests to establish load details, size, weight and contents and take all necessary safety precautions required for hazardous materials / substances.
Always be alert and vigilant whilst operating fork / side lift truck, obey speed limits, floor markings and other safety signage and never leave keys in the truck or allow an unauthorized driver to use fork / side lift truck.
Report immediately any damaged, defective equipment and any incidents whilst operating fork / side lift truck and comply with company QHSE policies, practices and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Contribute to the team ethic and perform all other reasonable duties as required in support of the business and maybe required to work offsite in support of business activities.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Recognised and valid commercial fork / side lift truck operator’s license with a minimum of three years operational experience in a similar role within a fast paced environment ideally an engineering workshop and familiar with best practice material handling and fork / side lift truck operating standards and procedures.
Honest and accountable with good interpersonal, organisational and time management skills and must able to follow instructions and also to work with limited supervision .
Good understanding of English verbal and written communication and must be able to read and understand cargo manifests, labels and numbers.
Must have a proactive and flexible can do attitude and approach to work. and be open and willing to be developed and to learn new skills, experiences and knowledge and have a flexible approach to working duties, hours and location.
Demonstrate proven ability, knowledge and experience of interacting readily across different departments within a multi cultural and multi functional environment.
