The STEAM Department’s classroom teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students, in order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students.

Also, the teacher shares the STEAM approach of education, removing limitations and labels and replacing them with wonder, critique, inquiry and innovation.

The main goal of the STEAM Department’s Classroom teacher is to develop student’s Creativity and the use of Technology to prepare them for the 21st century jobs.

  • Duties and Responsibilities : Provides individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects are being worked on simultaneouslyInstructs students in the proper use, care and safe handling of equipment and toolsProvides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and toolsDevelops lesson plans and supplementary materials congruent with course standards;
  • provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of studentsInstructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified administrative regulations and procedures of DeBakey High SchoolEvaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps accurate attendance and grade recordsProvides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and toolsEstablishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions, laboratory sessions, and field tripsEvaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taughtCommunicates with parents, team leaders, and school counselors on student progressSupervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the working dayParticipates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activitiesModels nondiscriminatory practices in all activitiesAnalyze performance data in order to provide targeted instructions based on students’ individual needs and measure it against the school learning outcomesPresent content according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulationsWork with other faculty members to determine instructional goals, objectives and strategiesUse technology to strengthen the teaching / learning processPlan and monitor work flow of instructional assistants and volunteers as appropriateConduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing, provide feedback to students and parents, and reflect on teachingSupport mission and vision of Debakey School by serving as a positive role model for studentsCreate a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of studentsManage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbookTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

    Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents, and staffMaintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and communityParticipate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growthCompile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documentsAttend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as requiredDemonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogyCreate an environment of respect and rapportEnsure to sensor materials that is culturally sensitive to the host country and not to impose personal opinionsProvide feedback to students.

    Coordinate and supervise field trips with the help of team leadersAttend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics,and students’ recognition ceremonies, graduation and open houseEnsure that school’s policies are observed during all activities and demonstrate flexibility and responsivenessFollow and implement school’s policies and proceduresAdhere to all School’s health and safety policiesOther duties as assigned by the Executive Director or other administrative staff, which is consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.

    Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilitiesQualifications : Minimum Bachelor’s degree, but preferred Master’s degree from an accredited college / universityTeaching License / Certificate is preferredTeaching experience in accredited schools.
