The Fitness Attendant is responsible for providing fitness instruction, proper use of Fitness Center, guest safety and monitoring building access.
Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
Oversee activity in the Fitness Center and enforce rules and regulations regarding proper use of equipment.
Provide one-on-one instruction to guests on safe and appropriate use of equipment. Assist in the physical conditioning programs by demonstrating equipment, methods, and procedures to be used, as well as proper safety techniques.
Provide timely customer service to all guests throughout the fitness center. When on the fitness floor, offer fitness assistance as well as being observant to all guests using fitness equipment.
Maintain order and enforce policies, procedures, and safety rules for fitness center which serve a diverse customer market.
Stay alert for emergency situations which may arise, perform first aid correctly and in accordance with emergency procedures.
Consistently ensure proper placement and upkeep of first aid equipment.
Ensure that accurate facility records are maintained such as accident reports and participation for hours which programs / facilities are managed.
Assist recreation personnel in the daily operations of fitness class programs and facilities.
Arrange exercise equipment, supplies, chairs and tables in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled classes.
Monitor locker rooms and restock supplies on a regular basis.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.
Knowledgeable in Microsoft programs.
Knowledge of recreation programs, safety precautions, first-aid procedures, individual and team sports, community interests and needs.
ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Additional knowledge / skills may be required by contract or assignment.
Experience & Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum one (1) year experience in similar role.
Secondary education or training in physical education, fitness or related field preferred.
Weight Room or Fitness Center experience preferred.
Must possess an American Red Cross CPR Certificate, an American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate or local equivalent certifications.
Must possess an Automated External Defibrillator Certificate.
Additional experience / education may be required by contract or assignment.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
