The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for inspecting 100% of the structural welds performed while ensuring compliance with DI regulations and procedures.
The CWI will conduct Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) reports on welding requirements and procedures. Ensures compliance with USAF mandatory requirements, Performance Work Statement (PWS) and DynCorp ISO 9001 : 2015 Quality Management System (QMS).
Ensures welding procedures are available, approved and are being employed in production.
Ensures the requirements of codes, standards and specifications are met.
Witness the preparation of test plates and destructive tests while verifying compliance with appropriate standards and specifications.
Ensures adequate and valid welder approvals are available, and that only approved welders are used in production.
Ensures parent materials against documentation and markings.
Ensures the correctness of welding consumables (electrodes, filler wires, consumable inserts, gases, fluxes etc.).
Ensures in pre-weld inspection that dimensions, fit-up and weld preparations are in accordance with specifications.
Surveys welding to ensure compliance with specified procedures including any preheat, interpass temperature control and post heat requirements.
Assist and agree with the preparation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s).
Ensures, when required that post weld heat treatment has been conducted in accordance with specification requirements.
Maintains records of inspections / repairs carried out.
Conducts inspections of equipment to ensure proper settings and operation.
Responsible for making recommendations to improve overall process and efficiency.
Approves preparations, repairs and finished products.
Develops work instructions and assists with personnel training.
Strong work ethics and ability to work independently.
Able to verify weld quality and workmanship to AWS D1.1 and D1.2.
Ability to perform Nondestructive Tests (dye penetrant and / or magnetic particle) as required before and after repairs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office to include as a minimum Power Point, Excel and Word programs.
Must understand technical data, plans / blueprints and publications pertaining to but not limited to US Air Force vehicles, and equipment.
Must have, or be able to obtain confined space permit.
Must be able to understand and operate plasma and acetylene cutting equipment.
Must possess a valid home country driver’s license and ability to obtain host nation driver’s license.
May be required to operate material handling equipment.
Experience & Education
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Must have Technical School training, and American Welding Society (AWS) certification.
Verifiable five years’ experience as a certified welder, with experience in MIG (metal inert gas), TIG (tungsten inert gas), ARC (electrical arc welding) and Gas welding operations required.
Must possess a current CWI certification to be able to certify other assigned welders work.
NDT Level II (or higher) required.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
Works in maintenance shop or warehouse environment and may be required to work outdoors for extended periods.
May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to prescribed procedures and as required for task being performed.
Physically capable of performing all required duties; capable of lifting / pushing / pulling minimum of 50 lbs. and performing extensive work handling / lifting equipment.
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
