Department / Branch Profile

Sidra Medical & Research Center’s Department of Pediatrics the will provide world class excellence in clinical care, teaching and biomedical research for the women and children of Qatar.

The Department of Pediatrics coordinates its surgical services with Hamad Medical Corporation and collaborates in research and educational activity with Weill Cornell Medical College -

Qatar. The level of national interest and support in medical quality, education, innovative research and technology has already resulted in significant discoveries and highly functional research organizations that will collaborate with Sidra.

Job Summary

Reporting to Section Head, Child Protective Services, the Manager Protective Services organizes and leads in-hospital child protection team, working closely with all members of the department and child protection teams across the health community and responsible authorities in Qatar.

The incumbent leads and supports all activities necessary to promote best practice and interventions to safeguard and protect children and young people, advises and supports all named professionals across the health community and be responsible to and accountable for the service provided by Sidra.

The incumbent takes a strategic and professional lead in providing support to all providers and linking particularly with named child protection health professionals, local authority and ministry of interior children’s services.

Key Role Accountabilities

1- Clinical role

  • Develops appropriate management plans for clinical and psychological support for child protection with all relevant to all responsible sectors for each child suspected of having been maltreated.
  • Supports and advises other professionals on the clinical and psychological management of all forms of child maltreatment, including relevant legal frameworks and required documentation
  • Assesses and evaluates clinical and psychological evidence, write reports and present information to child protection authorities.
  • Attends legal proceedings as necessary to provide relevant evidence and information on child protection cases
  • Provides advice and signposting to other professionals regarding key research and advances in clinical practice, legal processes and current policy documents
  • 2- Leadership and advisory role

  • Advises and has input into the development of best practice guidelines and policies for all health staff and ensures that performance against these is appropriately monitored and audited
  • Provides clinical and psychological advice about child protection risks (including any deficiencies or vulnerable areas in service provision) within Sidra and organizations across the health community via a health representatives group
  • Provides clinical and psychological advice (direct and indirect) to colleagues on the assessment, treatment, and clinical services for all forms of child maltreatment including but not limited to Fill, child sexual abuse, honor-
  • based violence, trafficking and detention within the Prevention strategy.

    3- Co-ordination and communication

  • Works with other designated professionals to agree on team responsibilities and individual roles
  • Liaises with, advises, and supports named professionals within Sidra and across the health community
  • Leads and supports the activities of local health advisory groups for child protection
  • Liaises with the Ministry of Interior / local authority on child protection
  • 4- Governance : policies and procedures

  • Works with health care departments within Sidra and across the health community to ensure that appropriate policies, procedures, training, and audit are in place and that these are consistent with the policies of Sidra and Ministry of Interior in Qatar
  • Assists with and facilitates the development of quality assurance systems within Sidra and across the health community
  • 5- Training Responsibilities

  • Advises and collaborates with other organizations on child protection training needs and the delivery of training for all health staff within Sidra and organizations across the health community
  • Plays an active part in the planning and delivery of inter-agency training
  • 6- Inter-agency Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other stakeholders to ensure appropriate care to children and families where child risk is suspected.
  • Provides child protection health advice on policy and individual cases to statutory and voluntary agencies, including the Police, Children’s Social Care and Qatar Foundation
  • 7- Monitoring

  • Ensures services delivered by Sidra personnel are consistent with stated guidelines
  • Provides advice to all organizations across the health community including Sidra on the implementation of an effective system of child protection audit, training, and supervision
  • Provides advice on clinical governance and standards to named professionals
  • 8- Supervision

  • Supervises (directly and indirectly) Sidra personnel to ensure the best care is being provided.
  • Provides clinical and psychological advice on child protection case-focused support and supervision for health staff at all levels within organizations across the health community including Sidra that delivers health services
  • Produces a supervision strategy for the health community which provides direction and options for supervision models, as appropriate to need
  • 9- Personal development

  • Meets the organization’s and the professional body’s requirements for training attendance
  • Attends relevant regional and national continuing professional development activities in order to maintain skills.
  • Receives regular child protection supervision / peer review and undertake reflective practice from outside the employing organization
  • Essential Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS - SELECTION CRITERIA :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work / Sociology.
  • 5 + years relevant Management experience in social field in health care or equivalent.
  • Participation in research or clinical audit or equivalent.
  • Participation in departmental teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage professional staff with a clear understanding of the professional issues relating to the guidance and management of such staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with the ability to receive and impart information accurately to patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing clinical research and clinical trials.
  • Knowledge and application of Good Clinical Practice in relation to research.
  • Good self-management and decision making skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Social Services / Sociology.
  • Experience in other areas relevant to child health e.g. general practice, child mental health, obstetrics, and public health.
  • Previous experience of working with children with ADHD or Autism.
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and make decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively e.g. report writing; thesis.
  • Formal research training; demonstrated ability to design a research or audit project.
  • Formal training in teaching methods; demonstrated ability in teaching / training.
  • Knowledge of Arab culture and health challenges in Qatar and the region.
  • Skilled in the implementation of clinical trials management systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory issues relating to the conduct of research.
